WMF Stage 5: EIS And Design Of WMF

MPSC has recently identified a preferred site for the WMF just south of the Moree Saleyards along the Newell Highway, Moree. MPSC is now commencing the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed site and designing the WMF.

Stage 4 involved detailed investigations of most preferred locality for the new WMF. This locality ‘the study area’ is located approximately 8km south of Moree on the eastern side of the Newell Highway and Railway line and incorporates approximately 380 ha. Stage 3: Preliminary Site Investigations

Stage 3 involved on-site investigations and the development of ‘property / site profiles’ on each parcel of land identified in Stage 2 and through the Expression of Interest (EOI) process. EOI were invited from landholders who would voluntarily sell a portion of their land for the purpose of the WMF.

Stage 2: Preliminary Assessment To Identify Parcels Of Land For Further Investigations

Stage 2 involved a preliminary desktop assessment of a parcel of land’s appropriateness for the WMF and allowed for a further reduction in the area of land under consideration in further investigations. This preliminary assessment used a number of criteria determined by the Council, Community and DEC to individually assess parcels of land. The criteria were developed to identify the level of social, economic and environmental risk that the WMF would have on a parcel of land or locality. A total of 239 parcels of land were individually assessed. Following the desktop assessments a further review was undertaken to verify the results obtained from the desktop assessment.
