Recommended flood protection options proposed for Boggabilla
Moree Plains Shire Council (Council) is currently undertaking a floodplain risk management study to determine and assess flood management options for Boggabilla and its residents.
Over the last six months, Council and engineering consultants GHD Pty Ltd (GHD) have undertaken social, economic and environmental studies to determine possible flood protection options for Boggabilla, with four options being put forward to Council for consideration.
Voluntary purchase, house-raising, and flood warning were recognised as having the most desirable economic, social and environmental outcomes. The levee option was also favoured, however has less desirable social and financial impacts on Boggabilla.
The project team is inviting all interested stakeholders to attend a Community and Agency Workshop at the Boggabilla Town and Country Club on Tuesday 4th September 2007, from 6pm – 8pm.
This workshop will give the community an opportunity to review the options in greater detail and discuss any concerns that stakeholders may have.
