... Future Direction, Budget.
To create and maintain a quality environment for the Shire's community in which land use and development is planned and assessed in line with the community's expectations and the social, environmental, economic, heritage and physical wellbeing of the community is enhanced and protected. The Strategic Planning function is responsible for planning the Shire's future in a regional context, whilst taking into consideration the community needs and expectations and embracing the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD).
The key activities of the strategic planning function are: - Urban and rural land use and environmental policy development,
maintenance and review; - Co-ordination of the collection and distribution of urban planning
information and data; and - Community Consultation.
Future Direction - Ensure the future development and growth of the Shire is in accordance with community needs and expectations and
the principles of ESD; - Ensure involvement of the broader community in strategic projects and policy development, maintenance and review;
- Develop a clear and roboust planning framework that recognises local residential character within Moree, and
throughout the Shire; and - Development of strategic programs that will protect and enhance the environment, local charatersitics, aspirations and cultural identiy of the Coummunity.
The Heritage function is responsible for recognising, protecting and providing incentives for heritage items, including both European and Aboriginal cultural heritage within the Shire to ensure their conservation for the future. Future Direction
- Ensure that the Shire's built and cultural heritage is preserved for future
generations; - Maintain and enhance the cultural and built environment;
- Develop the HCA as a heritage precinct to gain a reputation as being a
fine example of excellent urban design; - Recognise items of heritage and historical significance;
- Provide incentives to owners of significant items and those in the HCA;
- Ensure future developments take into consideration heritage in their
design so as not to compromise the significance of the existing built and cultural environment; and - Educate the community in the importance of built and cultural heritage and
the positives of conservation.
The Development Assessment and Compliance function is responsible for the assessment and determination of development applications and all associated assessment inspections. The key activities of this function include: - Development assessment and determination of development applications;
- Compliance inspections of approved development applications to ensure conditions have been satisfied;
- Pre-Lodgement process; and
- Community consultation.
Future Direction Provide a development application determination process that meets best practice standards and continue to improve that process.
