PLEASE NOTE: THIS APPLIES TO COUNCIL EVENTS AND EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS EXTERNAL EVENTS AND ORGANISATIONS
Over the past months there has been a lot of confusion over who, where
and when you can use a VMS. To make it simpler Council has
implemented an application for the use of VMS in Moree Plains Shire.
If you wish to use a portable Variable Message Sign on any Moree Plains
Shires road, park or open space you require Moree Plains Shire Council
and, in most cases, Road and Traffic Authority (RTA) approval.

Council’s approval on classified roads is conditional on concurring
approval from the RTA. You may also require planning approval if using
a VMS on private property, in a park or open space. Please contact
Council’s planning section on (02) 67573245 for further information.
Organisations and individuals wishing to use a VMS must complete the
attached form and return to Council at least 4 weeks before you plan on
using the VMS. Four weeks notice is required so that the
application can be assessed by Council’s Engineering Department,
Council’s Planning & Development Department, the local traffic
committee and the RTA.
Further copies of this application can be obtained by phoning Council’s
Engineering Department on (02) 6757 3276.
