…Principle activities, Budget and Future Directions
To provide sewerage reticulation and treatment to Moree and Mungindi.
Moree Plains Shire Council aims to provide the community with a service that protects the health of the community and ensures long-term sustainable environmental outcomes.
Conventional Sewerage Treatment and Treatment is provided to Moree and Mungindi. Moree's treated effluent is reused on local sporting facilities and the remined is used to iirigate a local cotton property.
A combination of coventional and low pressure sewerage systems is used in the collection system of Boggabilla's sewerage system. Ashley's has a vacuum collection system which includes gravity connection to each house. Both Ashley and boggabilaa's treatment and disposal is through maturation ponds and evaporation. A Septic tank Effleunt Pump-Out (STEP system) is available for residents of gurley and Gwydirville with discharge to evaporation ponds. The remaining villages have private, on site collection and disposal systems.
The Key Activities of the Sewer Section
• Daily inspections of the 24 sewer pump stations within the township of Moree and Mungindi;
• Ongoing maintenance and cleaning of all Sewerage mains and pump stations within the shire;
• Monthly inspections of sewer facilities;
• Installation of new services and maintenance of existing sewer services to private property;
• Continuous monitoring of the treatment plant processes; and
• Public education to promote proper use of the sewerage reticulation system.
Future Direction
• Treated effluent is piped from the Treatment Plant to irrigate Ron Harborne Oval, the Cemetery, the Golf Course and to a Cotton Property. The effluent is reused.
• Replace/Renew sewer mains and other assets at the end of their useful life.
• Identify limited capacity pump stations and assess option for enhancing production.
• Remove all non compliant Trade Waste discharge from sewerage reticulation system.
• Investigate and design Septic Tank receival facility at the Treatment Works.
• Investigate the Pallamallawa onsite disposal limitations.
Moree Plains Shire Council provides sewer services to the towns of Moree, Mungindi, Ashley and Boggabilla.
Residents from Pallamallawa, Garah, Boomi and Weemelah use septic tanks and absorption trenches/transpiration ponds for sewage management.
Gurley Residents use septic tanks and effluent ponds for sewage management.
