To create an integrated transport infrastructure network that will provide safe, convenient and efficient traffic movement for sustained community, economic and social growth.

BridgeCouncil maintains an extensive transport network, that comprises 241km of Regional Road; 2,638km of local road; 36 concrete bridges and 12 of timber bridges.

Key challenges include the provision of a transport network that has all weather access; that will support the economy and encourages development of the region with provided resources.

 


Future Direction

  • RoadTo create an integrated transport infrastructure network.
  • To develop and implement an asset management strategy and plan that
        minimises the life cycle costs and improves the amenity of Council's
        transport network assets.
  • To identify priorities, levels of service, maintenance intervention levels and
        road development strategies by consultation with the community.
  • To provide all weather access to school bus runs.
  • To upgrade causeways to reduce maintenance and improve access.
  • To improve the amenity of urban areas by sealing all residential streets.
  • Replacement of all timber bridges with low maintenance concrete structures
  • To improve traffic facilities to assist the travelling public or road users.
  • To develop an asset that can withstand the impact of natural and man
        made environments.
