To ensure that effective services are provided to the Community which complies with relevant Acts, Regulations and Council policies; involving public education, awareness and community involvement.

The Ranger Services section manages companion animals throughout Moree Plains Shire. It also investigates a range of complaints taking appropriate enforcement action relating to environmental issues.

SheepThe key activities of this section are:

  • Environment protection;
  • Companion animal management;
  • Public Road Stock Grazing Authorities;
  • Litter control;
  • Alcohol Free Zones;
  • Abandon vehicles; and
  • Management of stray and/or nuisance livestock

Future Direction

  • CowProvide an ongoing effective and efficient level of service in relation to
        community complaints;
  • Provide effective and efficient management of companion animals within the 
        Shire;
  • Develop and implement public education campaigns; and
  • To implement programmes that result in an overall reduction of littering and
        inappropriately disposing of waste material.
  • Design and install an approved off leash area in the Moree township;
  • All animal control signs throughout the Shire are to be reviewed in conjunction
        with relevant Divisions of Council; and
  • Establishment of a lock-up fenced in yard for impounded articles.

Pound Facility

Moree Plains Shire Council's pound is located in Tycannah Street, Moree; this facility caters for both dogs and cats. There is also a facility located at Boggabilla and Mungindi, which cater for dogs only. Moree Plains Shire Council has a livestock facility located in Moree.
