Noxious Weeds

To control and reduce the impact and number of noxious weeds in the Moree Plains Shire and obtain the co-operation of land holders and other Authorities in weed control initiatives.

FlowersCouncil has a legislated responsibility to control noxious weeds on all Council managed lands, including roadsides, reserves, properties etc. Council also makes provision for undertaking regular inspections of private properties to minimise the impact of noxious weeds on the environment.

Key challenges include:

  • Geographical location;
  • Contamination from agricultural machinery;
  • Maintaining accurate records;
  • Policy and guidelines for operational matters;
  • Safe operating procedures;
  • Resourcing and training of new staff;
  • Changing industry standards in weed control; and
  • Cross border controls.

Future Direction

  • Comply with NSW agricultural directives and policies.
  • Develop safe operating work procedures.
  • Develop a comprehensive weed location recording program.
  • Undertake a full review of staff, plant, equipment and method of delivery for future operations.
