Stormwater & Flood Mitigation |
|
... Future Direction, Budget.
To maintain stormwater drainage and levee systems to minimise the risk of property damage and nuisance flooding. Council manages various overland and underground stormwater drainage systems and levee systems designed to mitigate and protect the community and property from the effect of stormwater and flood inundation to the towns and villages of the shire.
Key challenges include minimisation of the effects of inundation to the increasing urban and agricultural development occurring within the shire, taking into account the environmental factors associated with the flat terrain of the Shire; multiplicity of flood plains; highly reactive black soil and poor natural drainage. Future Direction
- Reduce potential flood risks and damages within the urban areas of
the shire. - Reduce the impacts of urban stormwater on the community and
environment. - Develop integrated policies for the management of catchments
addressing water quality, flood mitigation, waterways and urban drainage.
