To develop and provide an aesthetically desirable and efficiently maintained cemetery parkland for the community.

Council maintains five (5) public cemeteries situated at Moree, Mungindi, Boggabilla, Pallamallawa and Boomi.

Key challenges include:

• maintenance of ac curate records;
• compliance with OH&S and Cemetery
  Acts;
• Provision of facilities to community
  expectations;
• Maintenance of facilities;
• Development of operating policies and
  guidelines;
• Training staff in appropriate behaviour;
• Sourcing funding to match community
  expectations; and
• Limitations on available area.

Future Direction

• Review of maintenance procedures and manner of delivery to minimise complaints and distress to the
  community.
• Facilitate the establishment of a crematorium to the south of the existing Moree Cemetery.
• Research the possibility of establishing community groups to assist maintaining outlying village cemeteries.
• Research options for eradication of feral animals.
• Develop and implement an asset management strategy that minimises life cycle costs and improves the
  amenity of cemeteries within the Shire.
