Big Sky Libraries
Moree Plains Shire has two operational libraries in Moree and Mungindi under the umbrella of 'Big Sky Libraries'.
The Moree Community Library offers an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction for adults and children, as well as audiobooks, DVDs, newspapers and magazines. Most items are available for loan and we also have a reference collection.
Located in Moree's CBD next to the Town Hall (50m from the traffic lights) this modern library offers its users Internet and Wi-Fi access, meeting rooms, and facilities for small conferences and training sessions, as well as study computers for students. We host the ATO Tax Helper service and also the NW Legal Advisory Service staff, whose trained staff come to the library. Customer service is fundamental to the library - the friendly staff members are happy to answer reference questions of all sorts – no question is too small (or too large)! That’s their motto.
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 10.30am the Moree library has story-time for pre-school children, and if you can’t make one of those times there is usually somebody who will read you a story. We can also help with homework queries and run school holiday activities and programs. U3A uses our library for its meetings, and we offer a housebound service for Moree residents who can’t come to us.
Our parent library is the Big Sky Libraries which has its headquarters in Moree and services 28,729 people spread over 68,905km² of northern New South Wales, with branches in Mungindi, Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Brewarrina.
Members can use any branch and have access to over 40,000 items in our collection. All branches offer an inter-library loan service (subject to a small charge) so that members can access material from almost any library in NSW.
