 6 July 6pm – 50 Years…Impressions by Moree artists

After visiting Moree to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Rides, Artist Machteld Hali worked closely with Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries to develop a scholarship to assist Kamilaroi students to study at the University of NSW. An exhibition of prints by local artists will be running from opening night on 6 July to 18 August 2018 at the Bank Art Museum.

 

During July, our community will celebrate NAIDOC Week.

 

13 July 2018 - Boggabilla and Toomelah NAIDOC Awards

This event recognises individuals, business, community organisations, and initiatives that are influencing the importance, resilience and richness in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture. This could be a person who is an inspiration to our community, who is leading by example through training initiatives, employment, education, partnerships or by engaging with their local community. Award recipients will be announced at a ceremony at the Boggabilla Town & Country Club held during NAIDOC week on Friday 13th July commencing at 1:00pm.

3 August – Registration for bulky waste pick up

The collection truck won’t be driving up and down the streets looking for waste piles, you must register your address with the Waste Hotline on 1300 736 719 or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or register on line via the bulky waste booking tab to ensure your waste pile is collected.

For households in Moree and the surrounding area including Gurley, Gwydirville and Bendygleet, you must register with the Waste Hotline by Friday 3 August 2018 for the collection that begins Monday 6 August 2018.

For villages and surrounding areas including Ashley, Biniguy, Boggabilla, Boomi, Garah, Mungindi, Pallamallawa, Vitonga Road, Weemelah and Yarraman, you must register by Friday 10 August 2018 for pick-ups beginning Monday 13 August 2018.

TECHNOLOGY TUTORIALS
Be Connected - Every Monday at Mungindi from 11am and every Friday at Moree from 10am throughout July.

Free technology sessions for seniors at the Library. Contact your local branch for more information or visit us online!

10 July 10.30am – 12.00pm – Tech at Tea (Mungindi Library)
Come along and learn how to access your 24/7 library whilst enjoying some light refreshments. Discover a wide collection of free downloadable books, audiobooks and magazines. Bookings essential, B.Y.O. device.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
13 July 10am – 12pm – Movie Screening
The newly released Coco, rated PG, will be screened during the school holidays. B.Y.O. cushions and snacks. Movie will be supervised but parental supervision is also required.

16 July 10am – 11am – Lego Competition
Come along and build a Lego masterpiece with prizes awarded for best creation. No bookings required.

20 July 10am – 11am – Moonhackathon
Be part of a record-breaking attempt for the most kid’s computer coding at the one time. Bookings essential or BYO computer.

MONDAYS
Knit & Natter – Fortnightly during the year (9 & 23 July) at 2.00pm-3.00pm (excludes public holidays)
A relaxed and informal get together for knitting and crocheting enthusiasts. Drop in, no bookings required. BYO knitting needles and crochet hooks, wool provided.

**New** Little Bang Discovery Club – Weekly from 23 July to 13 August 3.30 – 4.30pm
Fun-filled 4-week program that combines everyday objects and experiences with genuine scientific enquiry methods. Everyone attending will have a Little Bang Discovery Box to take home each week with a load of exciting items and activities to explore between sessions. Bookings essential and parental supervision is required. For children aged 4-6.

TUESDAYS
Storytime – Weekly during school term at 10.30am-11.00am (last session on 3 July, recommencing on 24 July)
Storytime at the Library for pre-schoolers and their carers. Enjoy stories and craft activities.

Big Sky’s Little Readers – Weekly during the school term at 3.30-4.30pm (last session on 3 July, recommencing on 24 July)
Aimed at children in Kindergarten to Grade 2, this book club meets weekly during the school term to read stories from the Library’s junior collections and make craft. Members also get to preview new books and have first opportunity to borrow them! (Operates during school term, new members welcome but must book in with Library staff).

WEDNESDAYS
Code Club Beginners – Fortnightly during the school term at 3.30-4.30pm (last session on 27 June, recommencing on 25 July)
Computer coding sessions for kids aged 8+. Create games and animations while learning the basics of computer coding. Bookings essential.

Book Blasters – Fortnightly during the school term at 3.30pm-4.30pm (last session on 4 July, recommencing on 1 August)
Activities for young people in Years 3-6 - Don’t fancy books? – blast that attitude and be delightfully surprised by the fun and games. (Operates during school term, new members welcome but must book in with Library staff).

THURSDAYS
Baby Bounce – Weekly during the school term at 10.30am (last session on 5 July, recommencing on 26 July)
Baby Bounce is an interactive session which includes finger play, songs and lap rhymes for babies up to 2 years, parents and carers.

**New** Robotics Club – Fortnightly during the school term at 3.30 – 4.30pm (starting 26 July)
Fun filled term of Robotics for children aged 8+! Learn the skills to program robots using various coding languages. Bookings essential.

FRIDAYS
Lego Club – Fortnightly during the school term at 3.30-4.30pm (starting 3 August)
Come in and join us for some LEGO fun! Build EPIC creations and make new friends along the way! Bookings essential. For children aged 7-12.

Needing a Public Donation by Council?

Individuals and community, sporting and educational groups wishing to apply for financial assistance from Moree Plains Shire Council for events, functions and sponsorship during the months required below are to complete and submit a Public Donations Application Form to enable the application to be considered.

In accordance with its Public Donations Policy, applications received after this deadline will not be considered until Council’s first meeting next calendar quarter (i.e. in three months’ time).

Any queries in relation to applications for financial assistance should be directed to the Executive Coordinator (02) 6757 3222.
