Moree Little Athletics' Success Application for Financial Assistance

Training our future Olympians

Moree Plains Shire Council is supporting our future Olympians with a $3000 grant to Little Athletics’ through Council’s Public Donations financial assistance program, which the Club has used to buy new equipment and host a regional gala day.

Little A’s, as it is commonly known, encourages the development of children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic activities with members ranging from Kindergarten to 17 year olds.

President Judith Burling explained the grant from Council has allowed Moree’s Little A’s Club to purchase much needed equipment required to meet the new regulations set down by Little Athletics’ Australia. “We now have discus nets and can offer our members the chance to have a go at the athletic throwing event and next we will get new scissors mats for high jump and starter guns,” said Judith.

Moree Little Athletics hosted a regional gala day on Sunday 14 August 2016 with representatives from Mungindi, Glen Innes, Gunnedah, Inverell, Cessnock, Narrabri and Moree competing.

“With the new equipment, we have held a very successful gala day – one of the best to date!” Judith exclaimed.

“Participants came from various towns with a big contingent from Narrabri and Moree clubs.” “We are very grateful for the grant from Council, the upkeep of the grounds and line marking.” “Moree Little A’s welcomes new members at the start of the school year and club day is every Wednesday at Boughton Oval,” said Judith.

Little A’s is about family, fun and fitness and skills development in running, throwing and jumping by personal improvement and participation.
