Give Your Old Mobile a New Life by Recycling it
Moree Plains Shire Council is collecting all brands and types of mobile phones, plus their batteries, chargers and accessories for the MobileMuster to ensure old mobile phone products don't end up in landfill - but instead are recycled in a safe, secure and ethical way.
Council’s Water and Waste Manger David Wolfenden explained that 90% of the materials (metals and plastics) used in a mobile are recyclable and can be reused to make new products, avoiding future greenhouse gas emissions, saving energy, protecting our environment and conserving scarce natural resources.
“Mobile phones and their components should also never be thrown in the rubbish for landfill. They don’t break down and contain substances that harm the environment.
“By recycling, you are actually conserving our scare natural resources because the majority of the materials used in mobiles and accessories can be recovered and be used to make everything from stainless steel to plastic pallets,” said Mr Wolfenden.
