Grant to Upgrade Boggabilla Sports and Community Facilities

Moree Plains Shire Council welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement that funding of $236,000 under the Remote Australian Strategies Program will support the Boggabilla Sport and Community Facilities project.

Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries was thrilled to receive news of the funding which will be used to improve the facilities at the Boggabilla Sports Ground.

“The improvements to the Ground’s facilities will make a massive difference to improving social, health and recreational wellbeing for the community.”

"The funding will initially be used to upgrade the change rooms at the Grounds, followed by other improvements to enable the Boggabilla residents to fully utilise the oval as a social and community hub," she said.

“The Boggabilla community identified the need for more shared community spaces to build cohesion and promote wellbeing, and it is encouraging that the Australian Government has listened and was able to allocate this funding,” said the Mayor.

“It is also encouraging that all levels of government are working with the local Boggabilla community to determine how to make the most out of shared community facilities.”

The funding supports the Australian Government initiatives for healthy communities, and Closing the Gap; as well as the New South Wales (NSW) Government’s commitment for promoting healthy lifestyles, community connectedness and increasing participation in sport, recreational and cultural activities in rural NSW,” said the Mayor.

“The Australian Government’s initiatives to support healthy communities by providing these kinds of programs for regional communities is vital for promoting long-term healthy and active lifestyles that will work towards closing the life expectancy gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” said the Mayor.
