Freight Trains Crossing on Tycannah Street

Railway Stop Tycannah Street“Watch out! Watch out! There are trains about!”

Moree Plains Shire Council is reminding drivers that freight trains are crossing the upgraded Tycannah Street level crossing as they use the Moree-Inverell rail line to Broadbent Grain to haul freight.
Council’s Executive Projects Manager John Carleton explained that drivers should be reminded the previously unused track has been operational since the beginning of the year, and train movements are expected to increase over the next six weeks.
“For your safety, please be aware that the GIVEWAY signs at Tycannah Street level crossing have changed to STOP signs.
“This means you must STOP on approaching the level crossing and look to ensure that a train is not approaching before crossing over,” he said.
The upgrade of the level crossing at Tycannah Street, Moree has been part of an overall strategy to balance the use of road and rail freight to reduce costs for growers and boost the local economy.
“The use of the rail instead of road transport is part of the plan to make Moree Plains the transport and logistics hub of northwest NSW, in readiness for the Inland Rail,” he said.

Be prepared to stop at the Tycannah Street crossing for trains using the Moree-Inverell rail line.
