Remember them - Ensure your loved ones are commemorated on the Honour Roll

Remembrance Day and the Centenary of Armistice has provided the community with an opportunity to pause and give thanks to those brave servicemen and women who served our nation, particularly those who served in World War One.

Council is now calling on submissions to be added to the Honour Roll to ensure that the community’s loved ones are remembered for years to come.

Taking pride of place at the entrance to the Moree War Memorial Hall, the Honour Roll provides a place for commemorating the many veterans from the Moree Plains community. In 2014, Moree Plains Shire Council sought submissions from the community to update the World War One Honour Roll to ensure that as many veterans as possible were represented.

In honour of the Centenary of Armistice, Councillors Mike Montgomery and Mayor Katrina Humphries moved a Notice of Motion at the 11 October 2018 Ordinary Council Meeting to once again update the Honour Roll at the Moree Memorial Hall.

Mayor Humphries acknowledged our fallen soldiers and the Armistice of Remembrance Day, saying “a hundred years have now passed, but we must never forget”.

“Every day we should give thanks for the massive sacrifices that were made during World War One.”

To ensure that your loved ones’ sacrifices are remembered by generations to come, Council is now calling for submissions from the public to be added to the Honour Roll, specifically veterans of World War Two, the Vietnam War and the Boer War.

“The Moree Plains has been well represented in serving our nation and we need to ensure that the Honour Roll accurately reflects the magnitude of this service, and commemorates each and every member of the Shire that served in a war”, said Cr Humphries.

Submissions to the Honour Roll must include the veteran’s full name, the war and battalion served in, and if possible their service number. All submissions will be reviewed for legitimacy.

Submissions are required by 5pm, 14 December 2018. Please email your submission to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call (02) 6757 3218 for enquiries.
