Australia Day Long Weekend Events and Services

As well as the announcement of the Moree Plains’ Australia Day Awards and a Citizenship Ceremony, we welcome our Australia Day ambassador, Clyde Campbell, and look forward to hearing from him.This Sunday, join us at the Banquet Hall (next door to the Moree Memorial Hall) Balo St Moree from 8.00am for the Moree Plains’ Australia Day celebrations.

Proudly sponsored by Council and brought to you by the Lions Club, this event brings together the Moree Plains’ community to celebrate our local Australia Day Award recipients, welcome new Australian Citizens and catch up over a free breakfast BBQ.

As well as the announcement of the Moree Plains’ Australia Day Awards and a Citizenship Ceremony, we welcome our Australia Day ambassador, Clyde Campbell, and look forward to hearing from him.

Mr Campbell is the founder of Shake It Up Australia; a Foundation established after the father of three and business owner was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44. Shake It Up has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to fund the world’s best research in Australia targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.

As Australia Day is a national public holiday, Council would also like to advise all residents of the following changes to services and facilities over the long weekend beginning Saturday 25 January 2020 to Monday 27 January 2020.   Unless otherwise set out below, Council’s services and facilities (including our Customer Service Centre in Moree) will operate as usual over this period.

WASTE SERVICES

Kerbside Garbage, Recycling and Organics Collection

Residents are advised that kerbside garbage and recycling collection will operate as normal for the Australia Day Public Holiday on Monday 27 January 2020.

Landfill (Biniguy, Boggabilla, Boomi, Garah, Mungindi, Terry Hie Hie and Moree Waste Management Facility)

The Shire’s landfill facilities will operate as detailed below:

The Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre will operate as usual over the weekend and from 7.00am – 7.00pm on Monday 27 January 2020.

Tourism Moree

Tourism Moree will operate as usual.

Moree Regional Airport

Moree Regional Airport will operate as usual.

Library Services

The Moree Community Library and Library services in Mungindi will be closed on Saturday 25 January 2020 and reopen on Tuesday 28 January 2020.

Water Filling Station, Moree Depot, Tycannah Street

Council’s Depot, including the Water Filling Station, will be closed on Saturday 25 January 2020 and reopen on Tuesday 28 January 2020.

Please contact our after hours service on (02) 6757 3222 to access Ranger Services or the Moree Pound on Sunday 26 January 2020 and Monday 27 January 2020.
