Mungindi and the Surrounding Areas

As Mungindi and the surroundings will see significant river rises along the Barwon River, here is a message from our Mayor.

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT MOGIL MOGIL FROM THURSDAY

Recent rainfall upstream of Mungindi, combined with the floodwaters from Queensland, has caused significant river level rises along the Barwon River.
Moderate flooding is occurring at Mungindi, with major flooding possible from Thursday.
Minor flooding is likely along the Barwon River at Mogil Mogil from Thursday.
Predictions for locations downstream of Mogil Mogil will be provided once upstream peaks are observed.

What we are expecting:

Based on the prediction provided by the Bureau of Meteorology:
Mungindi
• The Barwon River at Mungindi is likely to exceed the major flood level (7.20 m) during Thursday.
• At this height:
o The Mungindi – Boomi Road may close just past the airport.
o The Carnarvon Highway may also be impacted near Gravelly Creek.
• Further rises are possible.

Mogil Mogil
• The Barwon River at Mogil Mogil may reach the minor flood level (7.50 m) during Thursday.
• At this height,
o Banarway Crossing Road may close at Banarway Causeway.
o Barwon River Road may close at Collymongle Lagoon Causeway.
o Gundabloui Road, also known as the Collarenebri - Mungindi Road, may close at Moyan Crossing.
• Further rises are possible.

What you need to do:
• STAY INFORMED - Be prepared to act if your situation changes.
• Stay up to date with information. Listen to flood warnings and follow advice on how to protect yourself, family, and property.
• People working or camping along the Barwon River should monitor river heights and be prepared to relocate to higher ground.
• Farmers and landholders are advised to relocate livestock, pumps, chemicals and equipment to higher ground.
• Never drive, walk or play in floodwaters. Floodwater may be deep, fast flowing and may contain hidden snags and debris.

In life threatening situations call triple zero (000) immediately.
