Battle of the Borders
Come along and support your State of Origin team at the Mayor’s Border Battle in Mungindi on 28 May between 8am and 10am.
Everyone is invited to attend the ultimate cross-border showdown ahead of the first 2025 State of Origin showdown!
In a cheeky nod to the fiercest rivalry in Australian sport, the Mayors of Moree Plains Shire Council (NSW) and Balonne Shire Council (QLD) will come together at the iconic Mungindi Bridge to literally draw the line on the border between their two states.
There will be a range of fun activities and face-painting, a BBQ Breakfast from 8am, and a live cross to Today Extra show between 9am and 10am.
This will be a fun, visual and spirited event showcasing community pride, cross-border mateship in a town that literally bridges the state divide to celebrate the greatest interstate rivalry of them all.
Moree Plains Shire Mayor Susannah Pearse is ready for this gruelling cross-border showdown.
“Our Councils might be the best of friends on community initiatives, but when it comes to State of Origin, it’s time to draw a line in the sand, or on the bridge in this instance!” said Mayor Pearse.
Balonne Shire Mayor Samantha O’Toole is not backing down in the lead-up to this Border Battle.
“We’re more than happy to work with Moree Plains on water, roads and other community support, but I’m going to draw the line at State of Origin time,” said Mayor O’Toole.
“But seriously, we’re both proud to be part of something that not only celebrates our community spirit, but puts Mungindi on the map in such a fun and memorable way."
