Proposed Permanent Closure of Burrington Road Level Crossing

Burrington RoadLocal community and industry are invited to provide comment on the proposed permanent closure of Burrington Road level crossing.

The proposed closure would support longer term economic and road safety outcomes and align with NSW Government policy to limit the number of rail level crossings where practicable.

The closure is subject to consultation and government approvals.

Supporting future development

Moree Plains Shire Council is working with the Australian Rail Track Corporation, Inland Rail Pty Ltd and the NSW Government to support future economic growth opportunities for our region.

Proposed closure of the Burrington Road Level Crossing would:

  • Increase safety for trains and road users
  • Support future rail development and progress of a 6km (approximately) rail siding on this site.
  • Improve opportunities for current and future freight and logistics activities to operate and load trains longer than 800m (which will cut across Burrington Road)
  • Support broader economic outcomes for our community through enhanced rail access and intermodal development within the Moree Special Activation Precinct.

Alternative routes

Road users have the following permanent alternative access options:

  • Tapscott level crossing near the Moree Saleyards site.
  • Bullus Drive - now fully sealed between Burrington Road and Manildra Grain.

  • Thursday 5 June 2025, 9:30-11:30am
