Helping Learner Drivers Workshop – For parents and supervisors
This free workshop is taking place Monday June 2, 2025, this workshop is for parents and supervisors of (future) learner drivers, to better understand and more easily navigate the learner driver process.
There have been quite a few changes this year, especially with being able to do your "L's" online.
👉Online Driver Knowledge Test (DKT):
Learner drivers can now complete the DKT online. This offers flexibility and accessibility, with a single $55 fee to pass the test. They will still need visit a Service NSW Centre to apply for their Learner Licence, prove their identity, undertake their eyesight test, get a licence card photo and pay the fee.
👉Possible Reduced Supervised Driving Hours:
NSW learner drivers under 25 need to log a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving, including 20 hours of night driving. The Safer Driver Course provides bonus hours and can help them reach the 120-hour requirement faster.

👉Increased Speed Limit:
Learner drivers are allowed to drive 10 km/h faster than previously allowed, up to a speed of 90 km/h.

👉Provisional Licences:
After holding a P1 provisional licence for at least 12 months, you can apply for a P2 provisional licence (green P plates). P2 licences are subject to certain restrictions and are valid for 36 months.
There is no longer any need to take the Driver Qualification Test (DQT) to progress from the P2 licence to a full licence.
👉Other changes:
There are also changes to the Road Transport Act, 2013 that affect young drivers, including a new hazard perception test for learners progressing to unsupervised driving.
